Born and raised in Denver,
Joe Butler began his musical career playing drums in the 4th grade - which he continued through
high school. During his senior year in high school, he began playing guitar. Attending college
at CU-Boulder, the guitar became his new instrument of choice. Joe earned bachelors & masters
degrees in finance & accounting, which greatly helped his guitar playing.
Joe moved back to Denver after college. But after 3 years, Joe decided he would very much like to live in a foreign country. So he moved back to Boulder.
Joe has played with a number of musicians over the years, often in the band Nemali. He was happy to find his way back into the band scene, when his old friend Biggie asked him to join Ebeneezer.
Joe’s favorite musical acts include the likes of Phish, Medeski Martin & Wood, Galactic, Jazz is Dead, Miles Davis, Bela Fleck, as well as many other jazz, rock & classical artists. In addition to the guitar & drums, Joe can hack out a few notes on the piano & half-empty beer bottle.
